DRESS CODE

Parents are asked to send their children properly dressed for a learning environment inside and outside the school. Students will not go on the playground if it is raining or if the temperature is -15 degrees or colder. Otherwise, weather permitting, we will be outside during the morning and noon recess times.

St. Thomas Aquinas School has a “No Hat” rule which does not permit head coverings including hats, scarves and hoods inside, except on designated days.

Why Do Our Students Wear Uniforms?
The purpose of this policy is to minimize distraction and focus students’ attention on their work at school rather than their attire, and to project a unified school image, which is proper and neat in appearance. Students are provided the platform to view themselves and others by what is on the inside, rather than outward appearance. The dress code is a means to support and promote the mission and vision of our school.

Who Wears the School Uniform?
Kindergarten through sixth grade students are required to be in uniform each day that school is in session. School Administrators may approve modified uniform days or non-uniform days for events, field trips, student moral and other uses at his/her discretion. Preschool students are encouraged to wear the school uniform; however, it is not required.

Where Can I Purchase Uniform Items?
Land’s End is our preferred vendor. You can easily order online through their website www.landsend.com. At the website, click on SCHOOLS; next click on SHOP BY SCHOOL; enter St. Thomas Aquinas Preferred School # 900175886. We also use Donald’s at www.donaldsuniform.com. Donald's sells the socks and accessories for girls. Navy/white polos, navy/khaki pants/shorts, navy leggings, and socks can be purchased through other retailers, but must be comparable to Land’s uniform colors. All plaid items must be purchased from Land’s End or Donald’s as they carry our approved plaid colors and pattern.

What Happens When a Student is Not in Uniform?
The implementation of the St. Thomas Aquinas School dress code is a shared responsibility. Parents are expected to ensure their children are in compliance. Students are expected to comply with the dress code on a daily basis and encourage their classmates to do the same. Staff will enforce the dress code in a positive and reassuring manner.

When a student appears at school out of uniform, they will be required to correct the violation. Parents may be contacted to bring alternative clothing to school.

Uniform Options for Girls:

• Classic Navy Plaid/khaki/Navy jumpers (Grades PreK-5)
• Jumpers should be an appropriate length
• White/ Navy uniform blouses, polos, or turtlenecks can be worn under the jumper
• Classic Navy Plaid/Khaki/Navy skirt (Grades 3-5)
• Skirts should be an appropriate length
• White or navy polo shirts long-sleeved or short-sleeved with or without school logo
• Navy or white cardigans, navy or white pull-over sweaters, navy or white sweater vests, or navy or white sweatshirts with/or without logo
• Can be worn over the top of white or navy polos
• Sweatshirts may be worn over a white undershirt; however, the undershirt should not be worn alone
• Khaki or navy uniform slacks
• Khaki or navy uniform shorts
• Shorts should be an appropriate length
• Navy leggings or tights may be worn under jumpers or skirts (leggings alone are not allowed)
• Students should wear appropriate footwear
• Students may not wear outdoor boots in the classroom during the school day

Uniform Options for Boys:

• White or navy polo shirts long-sleeved or short-sleeved with or without school logo
• White oxford long-sleeved dress shirt
• Necktie or bowtie optional
• Navy cardigans, navy pull-over sweaters, navy sweater vests, or navy sweatshirts with or without logo.
• Can be worn over the top of white or navy polos
• Sweatshirts may be worn over a white undershirt; however, the undershirt shall not be worn alone
• Khaki or navy uniform slacks
• Khaki or navy uniform shorts
• Shorts should be an appropriate length
• Necktie or bowtie optional
• Students should wear appropriate footwear
• Students may not wear outdoor boots in the classroom during the school day Fridays and “Spirit Wear” Days
• Students have the option of wearing clothing with the school logo, or clothing created for a school event (i.e. school marathon shirts)
• Students wearing a spirit wear shirt or sweatshirt may wear jeans, if desired
• Students may not wear ripped or frayed clothing
• Students not in spirit wear must wear their uniform; this is not an out of uniform day
• Students should wear appropriate footwear
• Students may not wear outdoor boots in the classroom during the school day “Out of Uniform” Days and Preschool Guidelines
